Benefits of Western Michigan University Scholarships

The Michigan Western University Global Education Merit Scholarship offers a scholarship with annual awards of $5,000 based on merit to first-time international students (spread at $2,500 for the Fall and Spring semesters) for a maximum period of 4 years (equivalent to 8 semesters for the semester of the Autumn and Spring).

A scholarship is awarded for tuition only.

Western Michigan University Scholarship Requirements

1. Complete academic admission with all application materials AND the required Personal Statement essay received by March 1, 2023. No additional application required.

About the Scholarship

The WMU Global Education Merit Scholarship offers a scholarship with annual merit-based awards of $5,000 to first-time international students (spread at $2,500 for Fall and Spring semesters) for a maximum period of 4 years (equivalent to 8 semesters for Fall and Spring semesters).

A scholarship is awarded for tuition only. The scholarship supports your success at WMU: one of the most affordable public research institutions in the United States.

WMU's International Student and Scholar Services (I3S) - a unit of the Haenicke Institute for Global Education - connects international students with additional financial resources such as on-campus employment and other scholarship sources.


Personal Statement Essay (REQUIRED):

2. You must submit a one-page typed essay (maximum 500 words) with your online application by the deadline.

In the essay, explain and highlight your curricular and co-curricular achievements and activities that relate to your current plans and goals at Western Michigan University and beyond.

3. A degree-seeking undergraduate student entering WMU for the first time after high school or transferring from another post-secondary institution in the FALL semester. This includes an undergraduate degree program pathway.
