The International Air Transport Association announced plans to abolish the so-called "rule of 100 milliliters", which prohibits taking on board an aircraft in hand luggage a container with a liquid volume of more than 100 milliliters, Komsomolskaya Pravda writes.
Such a rule was introduced in 2007 in order to ensure the safety of passenger flights and prevent terrorist attacks. The presence of a flammable liquid on board is a danger in itself, and when several liquid components are combined, it is quite possible to make an improvised explosive device
After the introduction of this rule, passengers had to carefully consider the contents of their hand luggage in order to be able to carry the necessary medicines in liquid form or water on board without breaking the law.
The lifting of the ban on carrying more than 100 milliliters of liquid on board the aircraft is scheduled for no earlier than 2024. Passengers will be able to bring on board much more of the liquids, aerosols or gels they need, provided that they do not arouse the suspicion of airport security.
