The construction of delayed coking units (DCU) and tar deasphalting units (DAG) at the Turkmenbashi complex of oil refineries is nearing completion.

The launch of these facilities will mark a new breakthrough in deep oil refining, Nebit-Gaz reports.

The DCU is designed to process 0.9 million tons of raw materials per year, the DAG unit - for 0.5 million tons.

The construction of the units is carried out by the American company Westport Trading Europe Limited by order of the Turkmen Oil Refinery.

With the combined UZK-DAG unit, the plant will increase the processing depth from 86% to 92%. The rest of the tar processing at the UZK will be only 5% of the feedstock. At the same time, the output is petroleum coke, gasoline, household heating oil, heavy and light gas oil, and gas.

It is expected that with the launch of the DCU, the TCOR will produce high value-added needle coke. When the DAG unit is launched, the most valuable raw material for base lubricating motor oils and environmentally friendly high-octane gasolines will be produced. Asphalt and resins in the residue of tar processing will be used for the production of road bitumen.

The DAG block is an affordable source of import-substituting components that expand the product line of motor gasoline, hydrotreated diesel, heating oil and other petroleum products, the source clarifies.
